Why Trump’s view on Ukraine matters for India

U.S. President Donald Trump doesn’t seem too worried about Russia attacking Ukraine. Recently, he and his team treated Ukraine’s leader, Zelenskyy, very harshly. Even worse, Trump seems okay with Russia’s idea that some countries near it don’t deserve full independence.
This is dangerous because it suggests that big, powerful countries can take over smaller ones without serious consequences. For India, this is worrying because it has faced problems with its neighbors—one trying to take land and another supporting terrorism. If Trump lets countries invade others without punishment, it could set a bad example.
Why This Is a Big Deal
- When strong leaders ignore borders, it leads to war. History shows that just because fighting stops doesn’t mean real peace exists.
- For peace to last, countries need to respect each other’s borders. If a big country can forcefully take land, then it’s just “might is right”—which isn’t fair.
- Europe’s borders have changed a lot in history. Today, small countries depend on big powers to respect rules and keep peace.
Trump also had a strange peace plan for Gaza, treating it like a real estate deal instead of a serious issue. If he takes a similar careless approach to Ukraine, India needs to pay close attention and be ready for what happens next.
