The Old Course at St Andrew’s is to undergo a revamp ahead of the 155th Open Championship in 2027.
The famous links will be lengthened by 132 yards with new championship tees to be added on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 10th holes and enlargements planned to tees at 11 and 16.
New bunkers will also be added on holes six and 10 as the R&A wants to ensure “the Old Course continues to evolve and challenge the world’s best golfers”.
There will be other changes to bunkers, including at the famous 17th Road Hole.
Chief executive Mark Darbon added the changes are also key to “enhancing the experience of local and visiting golfers.”
The Old Course last underwent major changes in 2015 before the 144th Open, and prior to that the course was increased by 350 yards between 2000 and 2005.
