Stock market today: BSE Sensex, Nifty50 end in red in volatile trading session

Stock market today: Stock market indices Sensex and Nifty ended lower in volatile trading on Monday, driven by heavy selling in major stocks like HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries, alongside continuous foreign fund withdrawals. The BSE benchmark dropped 112.16 points or 0.15 per cent, closing at 73,085.94, after fluctuating between 73,649.72 and 72,784.54.
The NSE Nifty continued its downward trend for the ninth consecutive day, decreasing by 5.40 points or 0.02 per cent to 22,119.30, having touched a low of 22,004.70 during the session.
Among Sensex components, the declining stocks included Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki India, Axis Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharmaceuticals and Asian Paints.
The advancing stocks comprised UltraTech Cement, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro and State Bank of India.
In Asian trading, Tokyo and Hong Kong markets finished higher, whilst Shanghai declined. Seoul markets remained closed for a holiday.
European markets showed positive movement during mid-session trading. US markets closed higher on Friday.
The global oil benchmark Brent crude decreased by 0.58 per cent to USD 72.39 per barrel.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 11,639.02 crore on Friday, as per exchange data.
On Friday, the BSE index fell sharply by 1,414.33 points to 73,198.10, whilst the NSE Nifty declined by 420.35 points to 22,124.70.
